2008 was a peculiar year, the kind that makes history. It is up to us to make 2009 an opportunity to set the basis of new ways to do business and to interact with each other, on a global and personal level.
For Netk5, 2009 will be a year of IT Projects, with both innovative technologies and our reliable methods for network deployments, systems installation, administration, and maintenance.
2009 will also be a year of reaching out to other foreign communities in China. Expect surprises soon on this front!
More than ever will companies need stability and reliability from their IT, and we are definitely preparing for new challenges.

 Three good resolutions for 2009

  • Check your licenses validity. As worldwide (including Chinese) authorities increase enforcement of licenses' authenticity, a follow-up and update of licenses with your IT Administrator may prevent some critical issues. Our exclusive ITS tool can help you a lot!
  • Backup your data. Make, at least, a weekly backup of your data on an external hard disk. For more automated and controlable solutions, contact us!
  • Organize your desktop. A clear organization of folders and files will allow you to work in a clean and friendly environment

 Do-It-Yourself: save time & money by checking…
(Level :   )

At office, or at home, you try to start your computer. Nothing happens. "Don't Panic"! Before calling your "IT-consultant-geek-PhD" friend (or our Hotline), you may follow this simple step-by-step procedure:

Computer Won't Power Up?

  • Ensure that all PC's power cables are properly plugged into the socket or power strip, and that the power strip is on
  • Test that your screen is switched on
  • Try to eject your CD-Rom to confirm that your PC is powered on.
  • Listen to "beeps" coming from your desktop; more than one "beep" probably indicates a hardware failure
  • Last, but not least, unplug all external devices from the PC, except the monitor. If the computer starts, add the devices back, one by one until you can identify the source of the problem

You did follow this procedure and it still doesn't work… You can now call your "IT-consultant-geek-PhD" friend, or, for our clients, you can simply call our Hotline:

Do-IT Hotline: Getting support in 5 easy steps
(Level :   )

Netk5 follows a standard procedure when it comes to Hotline support. Our corporate readers are familiar with the following process, and will be happy to know that Netk5 provides this tried-and-true support in China:

  1. The Hotline attendant takes note of information as follows:
    • Client's reference
    • User's details
    • Details of the situation (list of issues, actions already done, etc.)
  2. The attendant creates a Ticket for each issue, identified by a Ticket number. The Ticket is then assigned to the best available engineer for each situation
  3. The engineer calls the user back within one hour, and plans the intervention, on-site or remote.
  4. Interventions time depend on the priority of the situation according to our Service Level Agreements, usually:
    • Critical issue (intervention in 4 hours)
    • Major issue (intervention in 8 hours)
    • Minor issue (upon case-by-case)
  5. Our Web based Ticket follow-up system allows our Clients to monitor current issues with all necessary details (assigned engineer, actions done, etc.)

Once upon a time…

As incredible as it sounds, the computer mouse is celebrating its 40th birthday this month.
In 1968, inventor Douglas Engelbart demoed the first mouse at the Fall Joint Computer Conference.
That mouse was a big wooden box built by Bill English, who would continue to play an important role in the device's evolution.
